Last week, some intrepid guests braved the midday sun to have a crack at our short course cross country bike track. How did they get on?

Guests often ask us how we found our network of routes. Some are on official maps, but most aren't. It's a question of finding promising-looking turnings (the 10% inspiration) and then exploring them to find out if they're a) rideable and b) connect up with anything else, rather than finishing at a cliff edge (the 90% perspiration).

After a thorough test of one of the new hire bikes Jenny has fallen in love. 'It's so light and fast but wonderfully stable on the descents. All the staff and dogs gathered around the new toy that arrived this week. An HD video camera! We are all baffled by anything that doesn't have wheels and the instruction manual could stop a team of oxen in its tracks but we'll figure it out. Spielberg, retire.

We are enjoying a glorious early spring in the Sierra Nevada this year, with a run of cloudless days with mild daytime maximum temperatures, although it's decidedly chilly first and last thing. The almond trees are in full blossom in various shades of pink, from almost white to almost magenta.

Our first farmhouse-based holiday of the year is the Epic Week starting Saturday 19 March. Places are still available. It's a spectacular time of year in the mountains with snowy peaks and almond blossom in abundance. If you can't wait that long, we've got several of our 'winter' trips running at the cosy Hotel los Berchules down in the village, just a short stroll from many a local (and now, almost unbelievably, smoke-free) bar.

Spain suffered a few days of torrential rain just before Christmas, so we'll be getting out with spades and mattocks to see how the trails have held up.

These warm summer evenings mean the start of the barbecue season at the Pure Mountains farmhouse.

Handily for you, a new section of motorway has opened, hugely cutting the journey time from Málaga to Pure Mountains. So, for 2010, we are now running the free airport transfers from Malaga (rather then Almería) airport for nearly all our holidays.

The on site XC circuit has been such a hit with guests that we're busy building a pump track in the front field for the 2010 season.
